Star Time Activity Cards are a collection of practical activities and strategies that promote critical and creative thinking among young learners. Each of these sections are packed full of fun, exciting and challenging learning opportunities for the early childhood years. Sections include:
Toolkit (Powerful- Meaningful- Lasting)
The tool kit section includes thinking tools that promote critical and creative thinking amongst young learners. There are 5 tools featured in each kit in this section, which are encouraged to be routinely woven into daily discourse and practice to help produce the best possible results.
(Challenge- Teamwork- Brief) STARt-ups are brief activities usually taking about 10 minutes to complete. They present a challenge and encourage children to quickly assess, discuss and analyze possible solutions. They are usually presented in 2 forms: Performance Based using gestures, props, and stage presence or Task Based which requires participants to build, move or change something. This is an excellent mental training for standard testing which demands students to analyze and respond quickly.
(Standards, Literacy, Engaging) Curriculum lessons are extended lessons which are aligned to the national learning standard curriculum. These lessons actively engage young children in the learning process. The lessons include the related curriculum areas, identified goals, warm up materials, length of activity, thinking processes, tools, activities, procedures, assessment, and enrichment.
(Multifaceted- Extended- Open) This is an opportunity for our young Rising Stars! to work as a team and develop a solution to a Challenge modeled after the Destination ImagiNation flagship program. In this setting, teams perform their solutions in a non-competitive environment called a Starry Showcase and have the opportunity to participate in a sanctioned Destination ImagiNation Tournament to an appreciative audience.
